Havasupai
With the gracious approval of the Havasupai, I had the privilege to explore Havasu Canyon. Situated deep in the Arizona desert, I was constantly twisting my head back in forth in absolute awe of the towering canyons. As I continued to descend, the orange and red landscape began to shift with hues of deep green and the sound of water began to become louder and louder. Known as “The People of the Blue Green Water”, Havasu Creek and its surrounding falls are an oasis that is nothing short of magical.
It is important to note and know that these lands are only an extremely small percentage of what is left of the Havasupai’s lands. Their original lands stretched well into what is now known as the Grand Canyon National Park, and they have been fighting for hundreds of years to takes back what is rightfully theirs. If you would like to learn more about the Havauspai, I highly recommend I Am the Grand Canyon: The Story of the Havasupai People by Stephen Hirst.
